Why I Started The Field PM

Renovating your home is one of the biggest investments you'll ever make. And yet most homeowners go into it without a roadmap.

Not because they're not smart. But because nobody ever gave them one.

I've spent years working in residential construction, first as a contractor, then as a project manager. What I've seen over and over is that when renovations go sideways, it's rarely because someone was dishonest or incompetent. It's usually because expectations weren't set clearly, communication broke down, or nobody caught a problem before it became expensive.

That's a knowledge gap. And it's fixable.

My name is Charlie. I'm a licensed contractor and PMP-certified Project Manager based in Madison, Wisconsin. I started The Field PM because I believe homeowners who understand how construction projects work get better results, for themselves and for the contractors they work with.

When everyone is on the same page, projects run more smoothly. Simple as that.

So that's what this blog is about. Practical, honest information about budgets, timelines, contracts, and the stuff nobody thinks to ask about until it's too late.
